Singapore – SeaLead, a fast-growing global shipping line, today announced the launch of its new Dubai, Karachi – East Africa (DUKE) service, a direct liner service connecting Pakistan with the Middle East and East Africa. This service expands SeaLead’s presence in Pakistan, linking it to the Middle East through Jebel Ali, a key transhipment hub, and further strengthens Pakistans connectivity to East Africa via the Middle East, thereby improving export opportunities.

The DUKE service offers a port rotation that includes stops at Karachi, Jebel Ali, Mombasa, and back to Karachi. The inaugural vessel is set to depart from Karachi on 24 December 2024.

The launch of the DUKE service is especially significant considering the strong trade relationship between Pakistan and the UAE. According to Arab News, the UAE is Pakistan’s third-largest trading partner after China and the United States, with bilateral trade volume reaching $5.6 billion during the fiscal year 202324. Of this, Pakistani exports to the UAE amounted to $1.59 billion, while imports stood at $4 billion. With a target to increase exports to the UAE to $2 billion by the end of the next fiscal year, the DUKE service offers a reliable platform to support these growing trade volumes.

Similarly, the country is looking to strengthen its trade ties with Africa, a region with immense growth potential. According to The News International, Pakistans exports to the continent stand at just $2 billion, with trade activities in only 20 of Africas 54 countries. This is despite the positive projections of the World Bank that the GDP of Africa could reach $26 trillion by 2050.

The DUKE service positions SeaLead as an enabler of these trade objectives, offering efficient and reliable links between the said regions, and unlocking opportunities for businesses to access these dynamic markets.

The DUKE service is a step forward in our strategy to expand into Pakistan while strengthening our presence in the Middle East and East Africa. With superior transits and strategic connectivity, this service delivers exceptional value to our customers, helping them access new markets.

Shiva Mahadevan, Regional Managing Director, South Asia, Middle East and Africa, SeaLead

The DUKE service aligns perfectly with Pakistans vision to boost exports to the Middle East and Africa. We are proud to play a role in facilitating this growth and connecting businesses across continents.

Doreen Yeo, Global Trade Director, SeaLead

The DUKE service further cements SeaLead’s intent to develop regional trade and present new opportunities for businesses within the Middle East, and East Africa.

SeaLeads recent expansions, including new offices in Malaysia and India, highlight its dedication to advancing trade in the region and facilitating seamless connections to global markets. The establishment of the South Korea office further enhances SeaLead’s capacity to serve high-demand routes, especially as the company looks to leverage growing Transpacific trade opportunities. Beyond Transpacific routes, SeaLead is also focused on growth plans connecting South Korea to the Mediterranean, North and East Africa, the Red Sea, and the Middle East, ensuring comprehensive coverage across key global trade corridors. Through its Asia – West Coast (AWC) service, SeaLead has established a direct link between China, South Korea, and the US West Coast, aligning with rising demand for reliable, long-haul routes.

Our new office in Seoul reinforces our commitment to meeting the rising demand for efficient shipping solutions across East Asia. South Korea is essential to our growth in the region, and with this local presence, we can help industries navigate regional and global trade channels with confidence.

Brian You, Managing Director, South Korea, Sealead

Shiva Mahadevan, Managing Director for South Asia and the Middle East at SeaLead, commented on the service’s impact, “The GIX service demonstrates our commitment to delivering reliable, efficient shipping solutions tailored to the needs of global trade. By connecting major ports in India with the Gulf, we are facilitating smoother trade operations, offering tangible benefits to businesses and contributing to economic growth across these regions.”

The introduction of the Gulf India Express service is a strategic initiative, aligning with the ambitious goals of India and Saudi Arabia to double their bilateral trade to US$100 billion in the coming years from the current level of approximately US$52 billion. This service underscores the importance of enhancing trade relations not only with Saudi Arabia, India’s second-largest trading partner, but also with the United Arab Emirates, highlighting the service’s pivotal role in bolstering the trade links and facilitating economic cooperation across these significant markets.

Singapore SeaLead, a fast-growing global shipping line, today announced a change in its ownership structure and a management transition, reflecting a strategic move aimed at reinforcing its market position and enhancing operational and commercial capabilities.

Introduction to New Ownership

Effective immediately, the ownership of SeaLead has transitioned to a group of investors, comprising:

  • Eurasia Capital: a Singapore-registered equity and debt multi-purpose fund that invests in multiple geographies across various sectors. With an in-depth understanding of diverse industries, including expertise in the maritime and logistics industry, they strive to identify attractive investments across the maritime value chain.
  • HCP Investments: a Mauritius-based fund that invests across equities, debt notes, performance loans, derivatives as well as distressed assets across various markets and industries and with a target market includes Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, UAE and other GCC countries.
  • Access Capital Funds: a Cayman Islands-registered fund that employs multi-asset investment strategies across sectors and geographies.
  • Saral Incorp. VCC SubFund: a Mauritius-registered fund that employs multi-asset investment strategies across sectors and geographies.

For reference, this change in ownership is officially recorded in the ACRA (Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority) registry, the authoritative body in Singapore, SeaLead’s country of legal incorporation.

As part of the new ownership structure, a Board of Directors will be set up to represent the interests of the new owners in overseeing SeaLead. This board will be instrumental in providing strategic oversight and ensuring that SeaLead’s operations align with the new owners’ long-term goals. Further details about the Board of Directors, including its composition and specific responsibilities, will be announced in due course.

The transition to new ownership is driven by SeaLead’s consistent performance and potential for further development in the container shipping industry. The new ownership aligns with SeaLeads strategic objectives, aiming to leverage the companys growth trajectory through enhanced governance and access to global capital markets.

Leadership Transition

In conjunction with this ownership change, Henry Schmidl, the Managing Director of SeaLead, will depart the company. This decision is part of the strategic realignment under the new ownership. We acknowledge Mr. Schmidls contributions to SeaLead and wish him success in his future endeavors. In the interim period, SC Chan, an experienced Liner executive and who was already a part of the SeaLead Management team, will serve as Head of SeaLead.

Implications for SeaLeads Operations

This change is not expected to lead to any disruption to SeaLeads operations, ensuring a seamless transition for customers, employees, and partners. The new ownership structure is expected to strengthen SeaLeads operational capabilities, expand its market reach, and enhance its service offerings in the container shipping sector.

2023 was a productive year for SeaLead, marked by expansion and service improvements, contributing to our global presence and operational capabilities.

We participated in TPM 2023, held in February, a leading event for the trans-Pacific and global container shipping and logistics community, at the Long Beach Convention Center. It was a fantastic experience to meet and converse with these key stakeholders in the industry and introduce them to our innovative shipping solutions.

We welcomed Alok Nautiyal as the Global Director – Finance in April, bringing a wealth of experience to drive our financial strategies and growth. In May, our team had an enriching time at Transport Logistic 2023. We shared valuable conversations and had fruitful exchanges with our customers and peers during the event.

Our expansion in South Asia was marked by the inauguration of our Mumbai office in July, led by Shiva Mahadevan, Managing Director for South Asia and the Middle East, enhancing our service capabilities in the region.

Adding to our accolades, in August, we were honoured with the Maritime Sector Incentive (MSI) – Approved International Shipping Enterprise (MSI-AIS) Award by the Singapore Maritime Authority, highlighting our dedication to Singapore’s maritime development.

SeaLead also launched the FIX: Far East to India Express in August. This service promises one of the fastest transit times from China to India’s east coast.

We proudly announced SeaLead’s certification in September as a Great Place to Work in Singapore, UAE, and USA, reinforcing our commitment to creating a supportive and inclusive work environment. In September, EXPRESS BERLIN, our largest vessel, commence its maiden voyage from Qingdao, showcasing impressive dimensions and a capacity of 10,114 TEUs.

To mark the Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, SeaLead organised educational campaigns to emphasise early detection and preventive measures. These initiatives, led by our Global Head of HR, provided platforms for sharing personal experiences and resources, demonstrating our commitment to health awareness.

In October, SeaLead also added to its global footprint, celebrating the opening of a 3,400 sq. ft office in Subang Jaya. Spearheaded by Winston Loo, Managing Director for Malaysia, this new office is strategically placed to optimise our operations in Southeast Asia, China, the Middle East, and India.

November saw SeaLead highlighting its container shipping services at the Global Freight Summit 2023 in Dubai, emphasising our role in optimising global trade routes.

A major highlight for our team was the launch of the MEDSA service, a shipping route bridging the Mediterranean and Brazilian ports. This service, introduced in November, features key ports such as Itapoa, Paranagua, Santos, and Casablanca, offering comprehensive coverage and swift transit times.

In December, SeaLead finished the year ranked 18th in the Alphaliner TOP 100 ranking after breaking into the Top-20 earlier in the year.

As we reflect on these milestones, each achievement not only signifies our growth but also our dedication to providing exceptional services and expanding our global reach. Here’s to another year of surpassing boundaries and driving innovation in shipping.

Singapore, 13th September 2023SeaLead, a rapidly growing global container shipping line, has been certified as a Great Place to Work in Singapore, United Arab Emirates, and the United States. This prestigious recognition highlights SeaLeads commitment to creating a positive and inclusive work environment for all employees.

We are honoured to receive this recognition, which is a testament to our dedication to building a strong and supportive culture, said Henry Schmidl, Global Managing Director at SeaLead. As a young company, we have always prioritized the well-being and professional growth of our employees, and this certification is a validation of our efforts.

The Great Place to Work certification is based on anonymous feedback from employees across various departments and levels within the organization. The survey assesses employee satisfaction and well-being, focusing on factors such as leadership, communication, teamwork, and opportunities for growth and development. Other countries in the SeaLead network were not considered for certification at this time due to being in the early stages of their operations.

“At SeaLead, we believe that our people are our greatest asset, and we strive to provide them with an environment where they can thrive,” said Sonia Vaswani, Global Head of Human Resources at SeaLead. “We are committed to fostering a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion, and this recognition demonstrates our progress in achieving these goals.”

It is the only recognition based entirely on what employees report about their workplace experience specifically, how consistently they experience a high-trust workplace. The certification is recognized worldwide by employees and employers alike and is the global benchmark for identifying and recognizing outstanding employee experience. Singapore August 3, 2023 SeaLead, a global container shipping line, has announced the launch of a new service called FIX (Far East to India Express), which will connect ports in China to the east coast of India. The service will be undertaken in partnership with Sinotrans, SITC, and TS Lines. The first voyage will be on the 23rd August, 2023. Rotation will be Qingdao / Shanghai / Ningbo / Shekou / Chennai / Visakhapatnam / Port Kelang / Shekou / Qingdao. The FIX will offer one of the fastest transit times available from China to Chennai and Visakhapatnam.

The FIX service will offer a range of benefits to customers, including faster transit times, improved reliability, and increased flexibility. The service will also provide customers with access to a wider range of ports and destinations, allowing them to expand their business and reach new markets. In addition to direct ports, the service will also allow for other SeaLead direct and feeder services to be connected allowing connections to Australia, Japan, South Korea, Vietnam, Thailand, and Indonesia. Customers in India will also have options to the Mediterranean and ports in Egypt and Turkey with SeaLead services via Port Klang, allowing for speedy and reliable services between these areas.

Commenting on the launch, Shiva Mahadevan, Managing Director for South Asia and the Middle East, said, “We are proud to offer the FIX service to our customers based in India as it will provide them with a seamless and efficient way to transport their goods between China and the east coast of India and vice versa, as well as allow customers in other countries to access the opportunities that India has to offer.”

The new service announcement comes just weeks after SeaLead opened a new office in Mumbai to serve as a hub for its South Asia operations. This move is a sign of SeaLead’s commitment to the Indian market, which is forecast to be the fastest growing major economy in 2023. The new FIX service will provide efficient and reliable connections between China and India, two of the world’s largest economies, with bi-lateral trade expected to grow 10% in 2023. Helping contribute to this growth are several factors, including the continued economic growth and rise of the middle class of both countries, the implementation of new trade agreements between China and India, and the reduction of barriers to trade.

Singapore 9th November, 2022SeaLead has announced the launch of a new service connecting India and the United Arab Emirates to East Africa. The India-Dubai-East-Africa (IDEA) service will commence on 22nd November as a weekly service with four ships, of which SeaLead will provide two and OOCL and TS Lines one each.

The rotation for the new service will be as follows:
Nhava Sheva (JNPT), Mundra (ADANI), Jebel Ali (DPW), Khalifa (CSP),

Commenting on the new service, Henry Schmidl, SeaLead Managing Director, noted We are delighted to be launching this new service in conjunction with our partners. Trade between India, the UAE and East Africa has been growing strongly and our new service will add further options for our customers. Providing this fast and direct service will shorten transit times and allow for faster connections.

The new service will provide solutions for both large and small customers that are looking to tap into this lucrative and fast-growing trade lane. With both Kenya and Tanzania estimated to grow at a rate of 8% annually, the East Africa region is becoming of prime interest for companies looking to expand their business. The growth is very well promoted and driven by the efforts of the EAC (East African Community) an intergovernmental organisation formed in 2000, that focuses strongly on infrastructure development, necessary to facilitate trade in Africa. India and the UAE are also benefiting from robust domestic economies, while India is one of the largest trade partners with East Africa (and Africa as a whole) having signed Trade Treaties with multiple African nations.
